Learn to read your own Inner Compass
Completely renewed as a browser app — don't become dependent on a tool, but learn to navigate on your own.
The Healthy Lifestyle Monitor (HLM) is built on the Inner Compass: Body, Emotions, Thoughts and Conscience. When you listen to all four, your intuition emerges — the integrated signal that points you in the right direction. Through the short daily Compass measurement you discover the patterns that influence your well-being.
The foundation is the Columbus Catalyst Code: lasting change does not come from willpower, but from becoming aware of who you are. Behavior that fits your identity takes less effort to sustain.
→ More about the Columbus Catalyst CodeThe goal of the HLM is not for you to become dependent on the instrument. The goal is that you learn to read your own compass — so that in the end you can navigate on your own: resilient, flexible, independent. The scaffolding can then go.
The Inner Compass has four dimensions that together reflect your inner state. When you listen to all four, your intuition emerges — the integrated signal that points you in the right direction.
Sleep, energy, physical signals. What does your body tell you?
Mood, what touches you. Which feelings pass by?
Patterns, beliefs, stories. What do you think about yourself?
Values, integrity, moral compass. Do you live in line with who you want to be?
The synthesis of all four. What do you know when you listen to Body, Emotions, Thoughts and Conscience? That is your Inner Compass — the needle that points you in the right direction.
The HLM adapts to your situation — whether you work independently on your self-awareness, guide others as a professional, or invest as an organization in resilient employees.
Learn to navigate on your own. The daily Compass measurement (max. 2 min.) makes your patterns visible. This is how you learn to read your own compass.
"Who do I want to be when it comes to my lifestyle?"
Guide on the level of identity, not only behavior. Support your clients on the way to independence.
"How do I help clients learn to navigate on their own?"
Invest in resilient employees. The HLM helps teams navigate on their own — with respect for privacy.
"How do we create a culture of awareness?"
The HLM guides you from taking stock to independence. The goal is not endless measuring — the goal is to learn to read your own compass.
Your daily measurement is called the Compass measurement and consists of two parts. Part 1: short questions about your lifestyle habits — sleep, exercise, relaxation, nutrition, social contact and living meaningfully — and about the work pressure and social pressure you experienced that day. Tap the bars — done.
Part 2 is voluntary: the objective Relax Index measurement via a heart rate sensor, 90 seconds. Without a sensor the Compass measurement remains fully usable, only without that layer.
After taking stock: analyze your patterns. Don't tackle everything at once — choose a maximum of 2 areas that can make the biggest difference.
Adjust the questions to your chosen focus.
Compass measurement (daily): keep an eye on result, effort and motivation.
Compass reflection (weekly): come to rest, review the week. Plus: "How high do you rate the chance of reaching your goal?"
The end goal is not that you measure forever. The end goal is that you learn to read your own Inner Compass — so that you can navigate without the tool.
Resilient, flexible, independent. The scaffolding can then go.
"Behavior that fits who you are asks less willpower to sustain. The HLM helps you discover who that is."
A laptop, tablet, desktop or smartphone with a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari). No download, no installation — you open the HLM directly in your browser and can measure wherever you are.
If, alongside the questions about your habits and circumstances, you also want to measure your stress objectively via heart rate variability (the Relax Index), you need a heart rate sensor:
The HLM works very well without a heart rate sensor too. Part 1 of the Compass measurement is already a valuable basis for self-awareness on its own.
Then you can use it directly for the HLM. The sensors are identical to those of the StressChecker — you don't have to buy anything new.
A measurement with the HLM is called a Compass measurement. The first part is always included, the second is voluntary — you decide whether to add the objective layer.
Every day you answer short questions about your lifestyle habits — sleep, exercise, relaxation, nutrition, social contact and living meaningfully — and about the circumstances you lived in: work pressure and social pressure. Plus the question of how relaxed you feel at that moment. A maximum of 2 minutes, often much shorter. Tap the bars — done.
With a heart rate sensor you measure your heart rate variability (HRV) — a window into your autonomic nervous system. You receive a Relax Index from 0 to 10, right next to your own estimate.
Already familiar with the StressChecker? Then you'll recognize part 2 immediately: it is exactly the same measurement with the same sensors. More about the StressChecker →
You record a number of values every day. After a few weeks there are hundreds of them, and that is exactly when you stop seeing what changed. The interpretation lays it side by side for you: what went up or down compared with the week before, and what moved together.
What the interpretation does not do is explain why. It points to no causes and does not tell you what to change — the questions in the Compass reflection are for that, and you answer those yourself. The decision always stays with you.
The AI interpretation is not secretly on. At your first Compass measurement, the HLM asks whether the interpretation may be turned on for you. If you say no, everything keeps measuring as normal — you see your scores and graphs, only without the written interpretation. You can reverse your choice at any time under Settings.
What the AI sees: your scores, age and gender — never your name or email address. More on this under Confidentiality below.
The HLM revolves around the most personal question there is: how you are really doing. That only works if you can be sure that this information stays yours. That is why confidentiality is not a setting in the HLM, but the starting point.
No one else can view your measurements, goals or reflections — not a coach, practitioner or employer either. If you later work with a professional who uses HLM Pro, that stays the case — unless you explicitly give permission to look along.
At your first Compass measurement, the HLM asks whether the AI interpretation may be turned on. If you say no, everything works as normal. The AI receives only your scores, age and gender — never your name or email address.
Your measurements and account data are stored on our own server in the Netherlands (EU). For two components we use an American service, and we prefer to name them ourselves: the AI interpretation (runs only after your consent) and the sending of all our email — including login and password emails.
We do not measure whether you open our emails or click on links — that tracking is switched off with us, for all our mail. And under our newsletter and reminder emails there is an unsubscribe link that works with one click. Security and account emails — such as a login code or a reset — you only receive when they are needed.
You pay a subscription — that is our business model. That is why your data does not have to be: no ad networks, no reselling, no profiles for third parties. It's that simple.
You view and correct your year of birth and gender yourself under Settings. Unsubscribing from mails takes one click. And if you want to stop, we delete your account and personal data at your request; we keep your measurement values without name or email address, for research into the methodology.
The HLM shows honestly what it knows: an unreliable measurement is marked as such and does not count in your average. Better an honest gap in your graph than a nicely invented number.
The HLM comes with a built-in Knowledge Center that sets out the methodology for lasting behavior change — based on the Columbus Catalyst Code and years of practical experience.
Many lifestyle interventions focus on behavior and not on identity. We think that is where the core lies: those who have to fight against themselves anew every day rarely keep it up for long.
The HLM methodology works differently. The Knowledge Center explains step by step why becoming aware of who you are forms the basis for change that lasts — and how you train that in practice via the Inner Compass, pattern recognition and focused attention.
Everything you need to work independently with the HLM and to understand the methodology behind it. Unlimited access included in every HLM subscription.
The Knowledge Center replaces the earlier PDF manuals. All content is integrated into the browser app and is continuously expanded.
The HLM has a history — and those who are part of it deserve an honest answer.
Then you have a license code — and it's worth more than you think. With your old StressChecker license code you use the new HLM free of charge until 1 January 2027. After that, you decide for yourself whether to continue with a subscription.
Your sensor also works directly with the HLM; you don't have to buy anything new.
The old app from the app stores has been replaced by this completely renewed browser app — with AI interpretation, the Knowledge Center and the complete CCC methodology built in.
The new HLM is a paid subscription, and that is a deliberate choice: your subscription is our business model — your data is not. No advertising, no data sales, but continuous development.
Choose what fits you: monthly, yearly, or complete with a heart rate monitor for those who also want to use part 2 of the Compass measurement. Every subscription gives full access to the HLM and the Knowledge Center.
